W. Shane Williams MD FRCP(C) was born and raised in Newfoundland. Dr. W. Shane Williams attended Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in St. John’s, NL, where he first obtained his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy B.Sc. (Pharm). He then completed his 4 year Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree and 3 year post-graduate fellowship training program in Internal Medicine at Memorial University, as well.
He subsequently went on to complete a 3 year Cardiology Subspecialty Fellowship Training Program at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. In 2008, he opened his private Cardiology practice and since then has taken a particular interest in helping patients in the prevention of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases.
One of the main ways he achieves this is by creatively educating motivated patients and helping them better understand how their lifestyle choices are often affecting their disease risk, as well as their established conditions. Once patients better understand this link, many of them are much more motivated to help themselves by making better lifestyle choices.
Dr. Williams can then further coach and support them during this important transition phase. Dr. Williams believes that developing a strong partnership and trust with each patient is key to being able to educate and support them towards better health.
